My Malabrigo. . . and a new toy!

Thanks to my 'new toy' (that my m-i-l bought for my birthday) I wound my Malabrigo in to a lovely yarn cake today. It's better than trying to hand wind but I would still like to get a swift one of these days too (hopefully for Christmas!) to make it even easier.

Ahhhhh, Malabrigo! Doesn't it look lovely? I can't tell you how many times I've picked this skein up and just squished and squooshed it between my fingers. That was before it was wound in to a cake.

That's the main reason I wanted a winder, so I can bring the skeins home from the yarn store 'as is' and leave them that way until I want to use them. I like seeing the twisted skein in my stash and only want the 'yarn cake' when I'm ready to start a project. Is that how it is for most knitters I wonder?

I think I've decided to make 'THIS' with my one skein, and yes it will be for ME. It's the Celtic Cable Neckwarmer (Rav link HERE). I'd also like to make some 'Evangelines' for me too that I think would match well with the cables, but I would imagine I need to order another skein of the same color yarn.

How's everyone doing on their TLL KAL Socks? This last clue has been the longest so far and I'm still trying to get the second sock finished, ready for clue #5. I think I should be finished in time.... but only just!

It is gorgeous! I don't think I've seen that color before, but I shall be on the lookout. It is one of my most favorite yarns. So, so nice.

i don't have a ball winder (i think i might ask for one for Christmas), but i think i might wind cakes just to put in my stash. sometimes the hanks of yarn take up so much space! i guess we'll see when (if!) i get one.

the pattern looks great! good luck and i can't wait to see the results. : )

I've been wanting a ball winder myself! What a great gift. I love my evangelines...they were a fun knit. The neckwarmer looks like a great match! Can't wait to see them when they're done.

Oh we have twin winders! I'm like you. I like to keep yarn in the skein until I'm ready to knit with it. This probably sounds ridiculous, but it almost feels like used yarn once it's in cake form! Yes I'm silly aren't I? :D

Oh that celtic pattern will be beautiful with that yummy yarn. Love the yarn winder. That's on my list, along with a swift. Trouble is, no one in my family knows what the heck that means!! :)

Ya for winders! They are completely worth the money, as well as a swift. Might I suggest these swifts http://www.knittingnotionsonline.com/index.php?l=product_list&c=1
H and I both have the walnut one, it comes in a little sewn bag to keep it in and take everywhere. I love it so. Put a plug in for one of those with the hubster ;)
Love that malabrigo, our lys has I think 4 colours of malabrigo...... its sad and one of them is black........ boooooo I wish we got all the yummy colours I see on rav.
Have fun at the gym! I'll be heading down to my basement for weight lifting with Moose today :)

Pretty yarn! How fun to get a skein winder. I hardly get to use mine since the kids all clamor for the chance to wind yarn!

The ball winder is a must have. I also wind up the yarn when I am ready to cast on. I have a wooden swift which was hand made by my neighbor & I love it.

I reccommend the yarn swift. I love mine and the kids think it a blast to watch it spin around and around. I think it makes them dizzy.

I have heard so much about that malabrigo that I might jus have to go out and get some. Hopefully you'll get a swift for Xmas :).

Ah! A neck warmer - good choice :)

I'm like you in that I don't want my yarn wound until I'm ready to use it - but I still prefer to had wind the yarn. It takes forever, though. I really should get a swift one of these days!

Love the Mmmalabigo, and the pattern is a great choice for it. I LOVE my ballwinder, so much better than the toilet roll I used to use! The swift makes the whole process a real pleasure.
